EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study was conducted to know if there is significant relationship between the extent of use of social networking sites and the academic performance of grade six pupils. The study was conducted at University of Rizal System Morong Laboratory School during the school year 2015-2016. There were 41 respondents. The variables considered the profile of different social networking sites such as Google, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and yahoo Mail used by the respondents and their academic performance. The descriptive method was used in the study. The researchers made a questionnaire checklist as an instrument in gathering the needed data. The data were collected, tabulated and interpreted with the use of appropriate statistical treatment namely mean, standard deviation and correlation analysis. Weighted mean was used to determine the extent of use of social networking sites and the academic performance of the respondents, Pearson-r was used to determine the significant relationship between the social networking sites and the academic performance of the respondents. The findings revealed that Google, Twitter, and Yahoo Mail seldom affect their academic performance, and Youtube and Instagram sometimes affect their academic performance while facebook often affects their academic performance. It is therefore recommended that pupils should be allowed to use social networking sites for educational purposes only. The pupils should be given encouragement on the proper utilization of social networking sites. Parallel studies maybe conducted considering other variables.
