Summary, etc. | EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The research study aimed to develop a power bank utilizing radiant energy harvesting technique. The research evaluated the performance of the radiant energy harvester in terms of voltage current and power output, materials used, and values of the capacitor. The developed power bank was evaluated the bank in terms of functionality, usefulness and safety and maintenance. The study was conducted mainly at the University of Rizal System, Morong Campus, during the school year 2016-2017 from the second semester of 2015 up to the first semester of 2016. The study was done primarily and expected to be an effective and reliable source of electricity. The device collects radiant energy from a reliable source through the antenna, and then the collected radiant energy will be converted into DC voltage and stored in a battery. The stored energy will serve as the source for charging low powered device such as cellular phone. The researchers used developmental and experimental research design since they developed a device. It underwent experiment to find its optimum condition. The researchers also employed the use of descriptive evaluative research design for the evaluation of radiant energy harvester in different setups in terms of voltage, current and power output, materials used as an antenna and values of capacitor. The developed power bank utilizing radiant energy harvesting technique also underwent for evaluation of its functionality, usefulness and safety and maintenance. This aided the researchers to further improve the device. Power Bank Utilizing Radiant Energy Harvesting Technique was developed using different locally available materials such as aluminum plate and copper plate which were used and tested for the purpose. Different setups were considered for experiment conducted to prove the functionality of the developed device. The developed Bank Utilizing Radiant Energy Harvesting Technique has the capability to power up selected low power up selected how powered devices such as cellular phones as compared to solar panels that collect radiant energy from the sun. Locally available material such as insulated aluminum foil and lithium ion battery can be utilized to develop a Bank Utilizing Radiant Energy Harvesting Technique. Using insulated aluminum foil as the antenna of radiant energy harvester is more effective than using other types of material. It is not possible for the radiant energy harvester to directly charge the device because of the low amount of current it produces. The researchers were able to prove that it is possible to store the converted dc voltage from radiant energy in a lithium ion battery. Using radiant energy as the energy source, it takes a long period of time in charging a lithium ion battery. The researchers conducted a survey to determine a survey to determine the level of acceptability of the developed Bank Utilizing Radiant Energy Harvesting Technique, in terms of functionality, usefulness and safety and maintenance with two groups of respondents specifically five (5) random students and five (5) experts. The survey revealed that the functionality, usefulness and safety and maintenance of the device are all Very Much Acceptable with means of 4.60, 4.72 and 4.72, respectively, as assessed by the group of students while the group of experts assessed the device with means of 4.60, 4.64 and 4.80, respectively, this results for the device to obtain an average weighted means of 4.68 from both group of respondents. Further study is needed to improve the radiant energy harvester circuit that will produce high amount of current, design an antenna that will capture a wide range of radiant energy including radio frequency emitted from different sources such as cell sites, communication tower and electrical transmission tower. |
