| Summary, etc | EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study aimed to determine and analyze the vegetation along the selected sites of Mount Sembrano-Pililla side Pililla, Rizal. The study was conducted at University of Rizal System Morong, Campus during the school year 2016-2017. The study also aimed to give adequate knowledge and inform the people on the importance of plants present in the area. The study used descriptive design in determining the vegetation present in the selected sites of Mount Sembrano-Pililla Side. It considered plants found in the area taking into the account the forms, types and profile of vegetation. In the collection of plant species, different sampling areas in the mountain were surveyed using the walk and transect method. The collected plant specimen was photographed for proper identification. Taxonomic textbooks, botanical illustration and existing monographs with dichotomous key were used. Whereas, in the case of undetermined species, standard procedures in making a herbarium was used, each plant was preserves through the use of a plant press, the dried plants together with the photographs were submitted to botanical expert for proper taxonomic identification. After the identification, the data were calculated, analyzed and interpreted. Moreover, the diversity measures along the selected sites of Mount Sembrano - Pililla Side were determined by means of using Simpson's index and Shannon-weiner index. The findings revealed that most of the plants present in Mount Sembrano-Pililla side are trees. Angiosperm ranked first in terms of type of vegetation, whereas, in terms of plant origin introduced species have the greatest frequency. Moreover, the calculated Simpson Index shows that there is less diversity among the plants found in different altitude level because the value is nearer to .1. Whereas, the equivalent calculated Shannon-Weiner Index of 5 shows that there is 5 percent diversity species per different altitude level. Hence it can be concluded that the vegetation found in Mount Sembrano - Pililla Side is considered to be homogeneous in types. Thus, the study recommend to plant more native or endemic tree and shrubs species for greater diversity, since there are less diversity among the plants from the different altitude levels and introduced plants species dominate the current vegetation in the area. Furthermore, it is also recommended to conduct a more comprehensive and specific study on the vegetation analysis along the other areas Mount Sembrano including the Jala-Jala side. |
