| Summary, etc | EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study attempted to determine how termite acts on different wood samples; also, this study attempted to determine which of the different wood species has the capacity to resist termite. It was conducted at University of Rizal System, Morong Campus during the school year 2014-2015. The researchers tried the six specimen wood species dried in natural way and oven dry, to compare the samples the researchers made two pairs of six natural seasoned lumbers and exposed in two different locations. The researchers prepared also an oven dry sample as the pairs given. Those samples were in the same day started testing the experimentation. The area was in Binangonan and Cardona, Rizal where the termite mounds are located. After six months the researchers collected the data. The researchers found out that on the level of susceptibility narra was found out to be partially susceptible to termite, yakal was extremely susceptible to termite, bagtikan was susceptible to termite, lauan and palosapis were very susceptible to termite and coconut lumbers was extremely susceptible to termite. Based on the findings of the study, the researchers concluded that the natural seasoned lumbers and kiln dried lumbers has no significant difference on the level of susceptible to termite on the following common Philippine wood species such as Narra, Yakal, Lauan, Palosapis, Bagtikan and Coconut Lumber. The researchers recommended that a follow up[ study on the level of susceptible of Philippine wood species should be undertaken especially on the other species that are not included in this study. The experimental locations for the termite exposure test should be more than two locations and the methods of evaluating the level of susceptibility of the wood species samples should not be based only on the reduced weight of the samples but it should be also based on the length of the time that the samples are exposed into the termite. |
