Dissertation note: Thesis Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English University of Rizal System-Morong. 2018 Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study was conducted at the University of Rizal System- Morong Rizal during the academic year 2017-2018. This is a descriptive qualitative type of research, hence, the analysis and interpretation did not require quantification. Data of the study were gathered through the discussion of the novel Slated applying the theory of Monomyth and the Psychoanalytical Theory. This study aimed to clarify and interpret how the different aspects namely: on hero's journey, on archetypal characters, on psychological journey and on the effects of Monomyth in the novel that can be found in the novel 'Slated' and found its effect on the construction and arrangement of the story plot. Moreover, the effects on why individuals behave and act in particular way and how these contribute in their change of personality. This study made use of the descriptive qualitative research design. The subject of the study, the Slated Novel, which is deliberately chosen because that is the novel that is appropriate novel which could be analyzed and interpreted through the utilization of Monomyth and Psychoanalytical theory by Carl Jung. The researchers have chosen and interviewed the external readers for the purpose of triangulation for the validation and cross-examination of their study. Akin to Norman Norwood Holland's book entitled Five Readers Reading, which reflects the fact that he, a well-known literary critic, collaborated with five student readers with the use of battery of psychological tests and extensive interviews to study the ways they responded to classic short stories by Faulkner, Hemingway and others. From the summary of findings, it was concluded that the aspects that can be found in the novel were proposed to prove the befitting of Joseph Campbell's phenomena. Under the hero's journey are seventeen (17) stages which is divided into three (3) divisions namely; departure, initiation and the return. On archetypal characters are the hero, the mentor, the herald, the threshold guardian, the shapeshifter, the trickster and the shadow. On psychological journey are on amnesia danger, on amnesia missed a spot, on blank slates, on brain washed, on loss of identity, on art memory, on split personality and on secret police are aspects that affects the journey of the protagonist. The theories were utilized through; the author's use of dialogues and the thoughts of the character in showing the psychological impact in the behaviour and actions of the person as well as the order or arrangement of the events that show a recurring pattern in its plot. The researchers generated the following recommendations for further improvement of the study: Future researchers may make use of Joseph Campbell's Monomyth in Slated - the trilogy Novel since it is a close and very related their study. Furthermore, the researchers also recommended the application of Monomyth in the trilogy of Suzanne Collins' the Hunger Games.
