EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The study aimed to determine the activity of Talong-talongan leaves extract as Anticonvulsant. Pure leaves extract was used in the study and compared its effect with commercially prepared Anticonvulsant drug. The study was conducted at the University of Rizal System Morong during the school year 2017-2018. This study utilized experimental method of research in determining the anticonvulsant activity of Talong-talongan pure extract that immersed in 95% ethanol for two days to produce the pure extract against seizure produced by inducer drug, Pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) in 27 pieces of albino rats weighing 100-150g each. The seizure inducer drug was injected to the Albino rats after one-hour administration of Talong-talongan leaves pure extract, commercial anticonvulsant drug and distilled water. The obtained data in the rate of the seizure produce by inducer drug in albino rats with respect to the onset and offset of seizure were analyzed using the mean and the standard deviation in which among the three (3) treatments has the weakest rate. Independent t-test was used to determine the significant difference between commercial anticonvulsant drug and Talong-talongan pure extract in Anticonvulsant activity with respect to the onset latency and offset of seizure in albino rats. Analyzing the results to determine the percentage protection of Talong-talongan pure extract, commercial anticonvulsant drug and distilled water against seizure, frequency and percentage formula was used. In terms of the rate of seizure produce by seizure inducer drug in albino rats with respect to the administration of Talong-talongan pure extract, Distilled water and Commercial anti-convulsant drug on the onset and offset of seizure, the Pure extract and commercial anticonvulsant drug treatment have the same effect with respect to the rate of offset of seizure, as compared distilled water that does not shown any changes in the rate onset and offset of seizure. However, in terms of computed t-value of the commercial anticonvulsant drug and Talong-talongan pure extract in Anticonvulsant activity with respect to the onset latency and offset of seizure in albino rats, the result may means that the Talong-talongan pure extract might have the same capability with anticonvulsant drug in latency and shorten the length of offset of seizure produced by inducer drug in albino rats. Moreover, in terms of Percentage Protection of Distilled Water, Commercial Anticonvulsant Drug and Talong-talongan Pure Extract against Seizure Inducer Drug (PTZ), Talong-talongan pure extract might have the same potential to protect the rats from seizure produces by inducer drug (PTZ) as commercial anticonvulsant drug, as compared to distilled water that there has no protection against seizure. Based on the results obtained it can be concluded that Talong-talongan leaves pure extract has a potential anticonvulsant activity.
