Dissertation note: Thesis Bachelor of Science in Business Administration University of Rizal System Tanay 2019 Summary: This study aimed to assess the business preferences of the solo parents in the Municipality of Tanay, Rizal as inputs to a proposed training Program. In order to answer and analyze the different problems stated in the study, the descriptive method of research was used utilizing a questionnaire checklist as the major tool to gather the data. Frequency, percentage, rank distribution, and weighted mean were the statistical used to analyze data. The respondents are 50 solo parents currently residing in the Municipality of Tanay, Rizal. Regarding the profile of the respondents most of them are female, high school graduates, who were solo parents for 1-5 years and unemployed. The preferred business ideas of the respondents are Bakeshop, tailoring shop, sari-sari store, nanny services therapy, food delivery service, catering services, online retailer, hardware store, appliances repair shop, massage therapy, cosmetology, dressmaking/sewing, street food selling, and hair dressing. The ability to prepare simple financial statements such as balance sheet, income statements and cash flows was identified as the skills they want to develop once they engage in business. Also, the respondents need to be trained more on substance addiction counseling, marketing determination, product costing, basic record keeping and marketing strategies once they consider engaging in business as a means to further provide for their family. As such, the Municipality of Tanay personnel or leader should conduct seminars and orientations to encourage the solo parents to become more aware of their situation and about the benefits that they are entitled to in order to help them improve their lives and their children. The respondents are encouraged to acquire varied trainings in the different aspects of their lives so that they can be more prepared to face the challenges of their solo parent life. The respondents are encouraged to inform other individuals like them to register as a solo parent for them to be recognized and allow them to enjoy the privileges of being a solo parent. The respondents should become aware of the provisions of RA 8972 so as to equip themselves with their rights and privileges as a solo parent as well as their children. Finally, a similar study investigating the effects of being a solo parent including their children is hereby recommended for further enhance the research.
