Dissertation note: Thesis Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering University of Rizal System Tanay 2019 Summary: ABSTRACT The portable indirect-active seed dryer with resemblance of flatbed dryer was designed to dry rice paddy and corn seeds. The dryer is powered by a solar PV system with 100W PV module and 12V with 70AH deep cycle battery. The machine is consisted of the following components: (1) heating assembly, (2) blower fan, (3) plenum chamber, and (4) drying bin. The designed portable indirect - active solar seed dryer has an overall dimension of 138 cm x 64 cm x 85 cm (length, width and height respectively). The machine has an overall weight of 24 kg. The weight of rice paddy that can be accommodated per batch of drying is 25 kg and 30 kg for corn. The portable indirect-active solar seed dryer has a moisture reduction rate of 1.73 kg/hr. and 0.88 kg/hours using rice paddy and corn. Utilizing the indirect active solar seed dryer has a drying efficiency of 56.89% for rice and 28.8% for corn.The qualities of the dried seeds were tested after the drying process. The dried rice paddy has 4.20% broken, no cracks and 7.49% shrivelled while the dried corn has no broken and cracks and 3.91% shrivelled. The germination percentage of dried rice paddy is 87.7% and for dried corn seed is 97.0%. The cost of drying using the machine is Php3.15 per kg for rice paddy and Php3.86 per kg for corn.
