Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The Study determined the disaster coping mechanism of men and women in selected municipalities in Rizal during school year 2014-2015. The researchers choose three municipalities such as Angono, Binangonan and Tanay, they were severely devastated by Typhoon Ondoy and heavy floods by moonsoon. The respondents were chosen using purposive sampling. The researchers used a formulated questionnaire checklist in gathering the data, according to their age, gender, civil status, monthly family income, number of deaths in the family and municipality. The researchers were motivated to conduct the study on the disaster coping mechanisms of calamity victims particularly men and women in selected places since, they were interested to determine how their coping mechanism differ., what are their priorities during and after the calamity. The researchers can also gives a clear view on how the victims react after the disaster and the possible solutions they can take in order to cope up with the experience. In analyzing and interpreting the data the following statistical treatment was used. Frequency, percentage and rank distribution was used to determine the profile of the respondents in terms of age, gender, civil status, monthly family income, amount of damaged property and municipality. Weighted mean was applied to determine the extent of the disaster coping mechanism of men and women respondents with respect to repression, rationalization, reaction formulation, sublimation, projection compensation, displacement. To determine the significant difference on the extent of the disaster coping mechanisms between women and men respondents. One-way analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was applied. On the extent of the disaster coping mechanism of men and women respondents with respect to repression it obtained an average weighted mean of 3.26 for female respondents and 4.19 for male respondents with a verbal interpretation "Often" while the male respondents obtained a weighted mean of 3.38 with a verbal interpretation of "Sometimes". With respect to sublimation it obtained an average weighted mean of 3.53 for female respondents and 3.79 for male respondents with a verbal interpretation of "Often". With respect to projection it obtained an average weighted mean of 2.93 for female and 2.83 for male respondents with a verbal interpretation "Sometimes". With respect to compensation it obtained an average weighted mean of 3.80 for female respondents and 4.09 for male respondents with a verbal interpretation of "Often" with respect to displacement it obtained an average mean of 1.98 for female respondents with a verbal interpretation of "Seldom" while the male respondents got 1.62 with a verbal interpretation of "Never". There is no significant difference in the coping mechanism of men and women. However, in terms of displacement there is significant difference. Based from the results and conclusions, the following recommendations are hereby offered: the local government unit must strengthen their information dissemination campaign and program on climate change and disaster risk management; counseling and related activities on disaster Coping mechanism must be provided by the proper authorities to help the victim cope with their painful and difficult experience; the constituents must be aware and cooperate in the program and projects related to environmental protection; and follow up study must be conducted considering other variables.
