Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study determined the word recognition skills of the Grade VI pupils of the University of Rizal System Laboratory Schools. This research involved a total of 43 respondents composed of twenty-five females and eighteen males. This described the grade six pupil in terms of sex and scholastic rating. It determined the word recognition skills of respondents with respect to accent, pronunciation and diction. The study used the frequency and percentage to determine the profile of the respondents, mean to determine the word recognition skills and two way analysis of variance (ANOVA) for the significant difference. Findings revealed that majority of the respondents were female, whose scholastic rating in English V ranged from 86-90. Their word recognition skills in terms of accent, pronunciation and diction was moderately proficient. It showed also that sex did not affect the word Recognition Skills of Grade six pupils of University of Rizal System Laboratory Schools while the average grade in English V was found to be significant. Based from the findings and analysis of data, the study found put that there no significant difference on the level of Word Recognition Skills of Grade VI pupils with respect to accent, pronunciation and diction in terms of sex and scholastic rating. Based on the findings of the study it recommended the schools and the English department should design remedial reading program that will help improve skills from moderately proficient to highly proficient. Provide variety of exercises and conduct various activities which could contribute to the enhancement of the Word Recognition Skills. Expose pupils to more reading activities and more challenging exercise in reading to widen their vocabulary.
