Dissertation note: Thesis (Bachelor of Elementary Education major in Content Courses) -- University of Rizal System-Morong. Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study aimed to determine the extent of waste management information and practices in Brgy. San Roque, Cardona, Rizal. The study was conducted during the school year 2013-2014. The variables such as information dissemination and programs/activities conducted as well as segregation, recycling, composting, landfill and creek/river dunpin were considered; 52 or the 10% of the total household population of the area were the respondents and selected through random sampling. The study used the descriptive method of research utilizing questionnaire checklist to gather the needed data. To determine the extent of information dissemination and programs/activities conducted in the area, mean was used. To find out the extent of segregation, recycling, composting, landfill and creek/river dumping, mean was also used. To find out the significant relationship between the waste management information and waste management practices of the respondents, Pearson-Product Moment Coefficient of Correlation was applied. The study showed that with respect to information dissemination in the area, the general mean obtained is 2.58 and verbally interpreted as "sometimes" and practices/programs conducted obtained a general mean of 3.11 and verbally interpreted as "sometimes". With respect to the above mentioned practices avoidance of creek/river dumping got the highest general mean of 4.76 and verbal interpretation of "always". Followed by segregation with a general mean of 3.87 and verbally interpreted as "often". Third is recycling which obtained a general mean of 2.37 and verbally interpreted "seldom". Composting ranks fourth with a general mean of 1.96 and verbally interpreted as "seldom". It was also revealed that there was significant relationship between the extent of waste management information and waste management practices of the respondents with respect to above mentioned aspects. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that waste management is not just a government's responsibility. It should also be done by every individual. Since garbage starts from one's home, waste management should start from it as well. Cooperation of government officials and respondents will help an contribute a lot in lessening the garbage problem of our country. Everyone should undertake practical steps to prevent, control, reduce or eliminate the waste that can harm them. Proper dissemination and implementation of waste management program affects people's practices that can preserve the environment natural resources. No matter how small individual efforts may seem, together they can make a huge difference that can help not only the environment but also themselves. The researchers recommended the following: intensify the information dissemination in the area; Barangay officials should strictly implement the policies on waste management on their constituents; The municipal waste Management board should conduct more trainings and orientations on the importance of proper waste management as well as its benefits and parallel studies may be conducted using other variables.
