Dissertation note: Thesis (Bachelor of Technology major in Automotive Technology) -- University of Rizal System-Morong. Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study entitled Improvised Caliper Piston Compressor aimed to contribute a suitable and effective technology that would make the work easier and more convenient. Specifically, it sought to produce an effective compressing tool for caliper pistons. It also focused on the performance of the constructed device in terms of usefulness, functionality, safety and maintenance, and durability. The theoretical framework of the study was based from Greek philosopher Archimedes, who studied the "Archimedean" simple machines: lever, pulley, and screw. A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a central core into a spiral shape that converts rotational motion to linear motion, and a torque (rotational force) to a linear force, first, they can convert a force that goes around and around into a force that goes up and down. The study was conducted at University of Rizal System, Morong Campus located at Sumulong St. Barangay San Juan Morong, Rizal in the school year 2015-2016 up to 2016-2017. The improvised Caliper Piston Compressor was a mechanical compressing device used in compressing brake caliper piston. It was made out of locally available materials and constructed by the researchers to solve the problem of student and professionals in compressing the brake caliper piston. The study made used of the developmental and descriptive methods of research. The main instrument used for gathering data was an adapted-modified questionnaire-checklist which was evaluated and validated by BT-AT and BSEd faculty members of College of Industrial Technology. The following statistical treatments were used to evaluate the Improvised Caliper Piston Compressor: qualitative description, weighted mean and independent t-test. The try-out and revisions became a positive delay to improve certain devices' functions, effectiveness, safety and others. It also aimed to protect the consumers or users from harm that this new device may cause. 87 hours was allotted in the development and construction of the "Improvised Caliper Piston Compressor". The total production cost of the produced output was the sum of the expenses in supplies and materials, labor and overhead expenses with a total cost of 2,730 pesos. The working principle involved includes the about the operation of the device, safety measures and control as well as maintenance aspects. Based on the analysis and interpretation of date, the following were hereby summarized. The researchers were able to design a well configured isometric drawing, pictorial drawing, exploded drawing and constructed the "Improvised Caliper Piston Compressor" device using locally available materials; On the level of acceptability of the project: in terms of "Usefulness", the experts perceived the device as Extremely Useful with weighted mean of 4.54 and the students perceived the device also as Extremely Useful with a weighted mean of 4.67; in terms of "Functionality", the experts perceived the device also as Extremely Functional with a weighted mean of "Safety and Maintenance", the experts perceived the device as Extremely Safe and Easy to maintain. With weighted mean of 4.68 and the students perceived device also as extremely safe and easy to maintain with a weighted mean of 4.74; in terms of "Durability", the experts perceived the device as extremely durable with weighted mean of 4.42 and the students perceived the device also as extremely durable with a weighted mean of 4.64; On the significant differences made by the experts and the students in terms of above variables. It was found out that there was no significant difference between the evaluations made by the automotive technology experts and students on the acceptability of the developed "Improvised Caliper Piston Compressor " in terms of the four variables, hence, the hypothesis was accepted. The following conclusions were based on the mentioned recapitulation of findings: The Improvised Caliper Piston Compressor has a capability to compress caliper pistons on disc brakes in different sizes: it was extremely accepted in terms of usefulness, functionality, safety and maintenance and durability. There is no significant difference between the evaluation made by the experts and students.
