Dissertation note: Thesis (Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering) -- University of Rizal System-Morong. Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Transportation system is very important part of any modern economy and core element of daily human life. It is necessity for globalization and economic growth. Due to the increasing demand to transport people, products and trade, vastly populated cities and municipalities are tackled with serious transport problems such as clogging of vehicles. Also, the large amount of vehicles affected the efficiency of the traffic management system being used in various cities and municipalities. Tanay, Rizal is one of the towns in the Philippines experiencing this dilemma. This paper focused on ASSESSMENT OF THE EFFICIENCY OF TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM USED IN TANAY, RIZAL suggesting possible solutions for the traffic congestion existing in Tanay, Rizal. This study was presented with information that were gathered through some method such as traffic counting and surveying to different sectors experiencing traffic congestion in Tanay, Rizal. The method applied in this study is descriptive evaluation research design. This research design was used to point-out all possible course4s of action to minimize traffic congestion if it exists while considering the existing condition of traffic with the provision of the traffic management system used in the specified area. By conducting traffic counting, the researchers determine the volume, flow of traffic and the road level service of the chosen stations. The type of vehicle which has the most number of count that travels along the commercial roads and highways of Tanay is the motor-tricycle having a large count in FT Catapusan Road heading until Tanay market public road. Also, the capacity of vehicles passing through the roads and highways of Tanay ranges from 1300-1800 and 700-800 vehicles/hour respectively. Mostly, congestion of vehicles occurs during afternoon rush hours from 5pm - 6pm. It was found out that the main cause of traffic congestion in some areas in Tanay, especially on the roads along the town centre, was lack of discipline of drivers on how to drive professionally. Also in some cases, large number of vehicles, insufficient road signs and the ongoing road improvements greatly affect the traffic system of Tanay. Based on the findings, it was concluded that the traffic management in Tanay was sufficient enough to sustain quality transportation in their municipality; there is no need for technological advancement in their traffic management system. The recommendations to lessen the traffic congestion were to give proper seminars and workshops for the drivers, to continue road widening including widening of bridges to sustain efficiency with the continuous growth of number of vehicles and to place additional signage and islands on critical areas of Tanay.
