It shows that optimism does not affect the anxiety of the students before and during the exam. This study concludes that although engineering students have a positive outlook in passing the exam it doesn't mean that they will not experience test anxiety. From the findings the following were recommended: The college of Engineering may conduct a lecture forum on overcoming test anxiety to strengthen the capability of student to pass the retention exam. The office of Student Development Services may continuously conduct seminar-workshops, activities and lectures on positive psychology and other techniques in managing anxiety. Future researchers may encouraged to conduct the same study considering other board course programs and utilize other variables to know how to increase the passing rate in the University.
