Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The study aimed to record knowledge from insightful elders, herbolarios, faith healers and practitioners of medicical plants present in Barangays of Navotas, Subay, Malanggam-Calubacan, Boor, Lambac, Tuna and Balibago in terms of family, ailments, plant part used, method of application, methods of preparation for use, local availability, and distribution. The study was conducted in the barangays of Talim Island-Cardona Side during the school year 2017-2018. Survey research design and descriptive method were used in order to determine the Ethnopharmacological practices in the barangays. Survey instrument together with interviews and discussion with respondents such as elders and traditional healers were conducted to determine the folkloric medicinal practices and uses of each plant species. The medicinal plants that were being used and found in the barangays of Talim Island-Cardona Side in terms of local name, genus, and species, family, local availability, distribution, plant part use, ailments, method of preparation, method of application and methods of storage and processing where determined through the questionnaires and interviews from the informants. In determining the folkloric medicinal utilization of the plants present in barangays of Talim Island-Cardona Side in terms of ailments, family, frequency and percentage were used. Eighty nine (89) plant species belonging to forty six (46) families were recorded. Plants are usually found in roadsides and lakeside, and are mostly introduced. They contributed in treating fifty (50) ailments. Treatments of various ailments were derived from fresh or dried plant. Leaves, whole plant, bark, flower, stem, rhizome and roots were the plant parts being used. and the modes of administration are dominated by internal application. Based on the results, it was concluded that there are many available medicinal plants around the vicinity of Talim Island-Cardona Side that are being utilized as an alternative medicine. As a result of this study, it is recommended to encourage the people in the community to apply proper management, and conservation of the medical plants to ensure their long-term availability. It also suggests to conduct phytochemical screening on the secondary products and biological activity of plants that have been recorded for the possible discovery of new drugs.
