Technology-based enrichment activities in algebra for grade 7

Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study aimed to develop technology-based enrichment activities In algebra intended for grade 7 students. This was conducted in Morong National High School, during the school year 2015-2016. This determined the level of acceptability of the material with the evaluation of the experts - the teachers of mathematics and It Professors. This considered the scores of the eighty -eight (88) grade 7 students in the summative test as reference in determining the least mastered skills and as bases for the development of the enrichment activities. Based on the summative test scores the least mastered skills are product of sum and difference of two terms and square of binomial. Moreover, the teachers of mathematics and IT experts were chosen to evaluate the acceptability of the material using a questionnaire-checklist with the following parameters; objectives, content, functionality, usefulness, organization and presentation with 5 items each. Descriptive developmental method of research was employed in the study which utilized an adopted-modified questionnaire-checklist. Finding revealed that developed technology-based enrichment activities was very much accepted as an instructional material in algebra as evaluated by the teachers of mathematics and IT experts with respect to objectives, content, usefulness, functionality, and organization and presentation. Further the results showed that, the developed technology-based enrichment activities in algebra for grade 7 students was very helpful for enhancing the least mastered skills of the students in algebra. The instructional material was attractive, interesting and has complete content that an enhance students competence. The instructions of each activity were well sated, understandable and organize. The instructional material was useful for the mathematics teachers in teaching learning process. It was also found out that, there was no significant difference on the level of acceptability of the developed technology-based enrichment activities in algebra for grade 7 students as evaluated by two groups of respondents in terms of objectives, content and functionality while there was significant difference in terms of usefulness and organization and presentation. The study recommended the utilization of technology-based enrichment activities by the teachers in teaching algebra for grade 7 students and a follow up study on the effectiveness of the developed technology-based enrichment activities can be considered.
