Influence if socio-economic status, family functioning and peers

Online resources: Dissertation note: Thesis Bachelor of Science in Psychology University of Rizal System-Morong 2019 Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study aimed to determine the influence of socio-economic status, family functioning and peers on the delinquency of adolescents during school year 2018-2019. The respondents were composed of 200 junior high school students from selected public and private high school in san jose, antipolo city with ages ranging from 13-16. 100 respondents were from private school and the other 100 came from the public school. The study measured the extent family income functioning, peers and delinquency of the adolescents. It also measured how socio-economic relates to the delinquency of adolescents. The study used descriptive-quantitative method of research design utilizing adapted questionnaire in gathering data from the adopted questionnaire was statistically computed using person-r and chi-square. The findings reveal that the socio-economic status of adolescents in relation to the delinquency does not vary in committing delinquency act. Among the three socio-economic status adolescents belong to high income families have the highest delinquency rate but still verbally interpreted as average delinquency rate. The findings revealed that there is a significant correlation between family functioning and delinquency of the adolescents. This means that with the respect of delinquency environment especially family is the predictor on delinquency of adolescents. It reveals that one of the important needs of adolescent to prevent delinquency is having a functional family. On the other hand, it indicates that there is a significant correlation between peer influence and delinquency of the adolescents. This means that peer relationships can be a powerful positive influence in the lives of adolescents. There are peer group who motivates and lead their friendship in a good way. Based on the summary of findings, the following are hereby recommended: adolescents may involve in different group that may engage in various activities such as sports club, religious activities etc. that may enhance their skills; parents may build an effective parenting style such as know where their child is and who they're with, to prevent their child in having delinquent behavior, municipal social welfare development may provide different community activities such as family day, sports day etc., that family member may engage to have family bonding and to stronger their family ties; the barangay may provide seminars for the family members such as prevention of the misconduct activities, how a family should work as a unit. It may be held in barangay covered court or at ynares center and; future researchers may utilize other variable such as parenting style, personality, personal value and school type to know other predictor of delinquency.
