Thesis (Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English) -- University of Rizal System-Morong.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The study aimed to determine the Correlational Analysis of the Speaking and Writing Performance of Grade 8 students in University of Rizal System Laboratory School. It was conducted during the academic year 2016-2017. The researchers wanted to find out the significant relationship of the speaking and writing performance of the respondents. The study made use of the descriptive-correlational research design and administered an oral interview using questionnaire-checklist for speaking and a writing as well as the rubrics in gathering the needed data. To determine the level of speaking performance of the respondents in terms of body language, content, fluency, grammar, organization, posture and eye contact, pronunciation and quality of voice mean was used. To determine the level of writing performance of the respondents in terms of capitalization, content, grammar, organization, punctuation and spelling, mean was used. Lastly, to determine the significant relationship between the level of speaking and writing performance of the respondents, Pearson-r was used. From the analysis of data, the following conclusions were summarized: The grade 8 students are excellent writers but there are still more rooms for improvement in their speaking skills. And lastly, the speaking performance of the grade 8 students has no significant relationship to their writing performance. Since the level of writing performance of the respondents is higher than speaking performance, the following recommendations were suggested: give students more opportunities to speak English in class and require them to speak the said second language in all their academic and co-curricular activities. Create an English-speaking environment for students, likewise provide more challenges to write articles using English language. Utilized updated teaching approaches methods, strategies and techniques in teaching English proficiency among students. And lastly, conduct parallel studies in relation to speaking and writing skills.
