Dissertation note: Thesis (Bachelor of Science in Psychology) -- University of Rizal System-Morong. Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The researchers conducted the study with the purpose of determine the adversity responses of students having single parents during the first semester school year 2017-2018. The researchers utilized the purposive sampling technique in selecting respondents; the subjects of the study were 7 students with single parents in Antipolo City, Morong and Binangonan. The study made used of a case study qualitative research design using interview and content analysis in order to determine the adversity response of students having single parents. All of the respondents experienced difficulties in accepting the pain of reality having loss of someone important in their family which is their Father, especially when respondents have deep relationship with their father and from being complete and happy family became broken or incomplete. All respondents' relationship with their single parent are affected because of busyness in work to provide the needs of their family, respondents were unable to received attention and guidance from their single parents, despite of this, they still managed their time for each other to strengthen the relationship between them. Theses respondents face intense adversities of having single parent like financial crisis, which they're unable to provide some requirements in school like books and tuition fee and unable to buy their wants. Another thing was emotional problems; respondents experienced the feeling of sadness and feeling of being broken. Despite of the respondent's situations having single parent, there are positive impacts on the respondent's life. Respondents handle their situation by adapting positive thoughts in life, learned to be an independent person, managed their life on their own, being role model and handle responsibility in taking care of their siblings and in every adversity they encounter that made them became tough, brave and resilient which greatly shape their personality and became a better person. All of the respondent's perceive that adversities made them goal-oriented and they tend to create a better version of them. That in every problem he surpasses, he becomes more resilient and independent. They are strong and brave to disregard all the negative effects on them. Above of all these adversities, respondents with single parents have courage within themselves to study hard and on how deal with the different adversity in their life and all of the respondents have same goal in life which is to be successful and give their mother a fruitful and beautiful life in the future. Having single parent makes one resilient despite of adversities in life. In the light of this, as per findings of the study, recommends are offered. Universities may provide seminars that may strengthen resiliency of students towards adversities in life. Monitoring of the local government unit in barangay level in the financial resources of every family to provide financial assistance or livelihood program to sustain their needs. Lastly, future researchers may conduct a research on coping mechanism on adversities of students with single parents.
