Dissertation note: Thesis (Bachelor of Science in Guidance and Counseling) -- University of Rizal System-Morong. Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study aimed to determine the development of self-esteem and involvement in extra-curricular activities of College of Science students in University of Rizal System Morong, Rizal during the school year 2016-2017. The subjects of the study composed of eighty (80) respondents who were chosen through purposive sampling technique wherein the variables considered was development of self-esteem. The instrument used the standardized questionnaire-checklist by Rosenberg entitled Rosenberg's Self-esteem Scale. The descriptive method research was utilizing the surveying technique. Data through the questionnaire were collected, tabulated and interpreted with the use of appropriate statistical treatment. Frequency and percentage were used to describe the development of self-esteem and involvement in extra-curricular activities of College of Science students in University of Rizal System Morong Campus. Pearson-r was utilized to determine the development of self-esteem and involvement in extra-curricular activities of College of Science students. The data were gathered, tabulated and interpreted. Frequency percentage and rank distribution were the statistical tools used to determine the profile of respondents in terms of sex, course, year level and monthly family income. To determine the significant difference on the level of self-esteem and involvement in extra-curricular activities in terms of profile, One Way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson-r were used. The findings of the study revealed that 75 percent of the respondents are female while 47.5 percent at the age bracket 16-18, 25 percent belong to the BS Psychology, BS Biology, and BS Guidance and Counseling, 53.75 percent belong to second year level, and 28.75 percent belong to monthly family income bracket of 10,000 -14,999. It is concluded that most of the respondents are female and belong to second year with the age bracket of 16-18 years old belong to BS Psychology, BS Biology, and BS Guidance and Counseling. The development of self-esteem of the respondents and the involvement in extra-curricular activities are high. Sex, age, course, year level and monthly family income were not contributory to the development of self-esteem and involvement in extra-curricular activities of College of Science students. Based on the data gathered the study revealed that there are more female College of Science students in the University of Rizal System, Morong whose are 16-18 years old, enrolled in different courses in the University belong to second year level with monthly income 10,000-14,999. The self-esteem of the college of science students is high. There is a high level of involvement of College of Science students in the extra-curricular activities. The personological information of the students are not contributory to their self-esteem. The personal background of the students don not affect their involvement in extra-curricular activities. Self-esteem and the involvement in the extra-curricular activities are related. Based on the result of the study, it is recommended to encourage students to attend activities such as leadership training program, team building activities, quiz bee, youth camp, camp, journalism, sport fest that could enhance the personality of the students specifically their self-esteem and involvement in extra-curricular activities. Conduct seminars and team building activities with regards to strengthening students' self-esteem. Parallel study using other variables may be conducted.
