Dissertation note: Thesis (Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering) -- University of Rizal System-Morong. Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study entitled Development of a Retractable Locking Device for Assisting Pulling-out of Bamboo Piles on Fish Cage in Laguna Lake aimed to benefit fishermen to save time, prevent wound and pain to their palms, and make their conventional method easier to execute. The researchers used the reaction force to pull-out bamboo pile. The baral and the boat serve as the beam, while the Retractable Locking Device Installed on one side of the baral and sudden applied force on that side, reaction force develop on the other side of the baral and by sudden applid force on that side, reaction force develop on the other side. Buoyant force exerted on the bottom of the boat resist both applied and reaction force and this will serve as the fulcrum. This simple force analysis lead the researchers to a positive result of the retractable locking device. This device is compose of the following parts: a Reel Drm, Bearing Shaft, flat Torsion spring, Case, Cover, Tie dwon strap, pawl and Ratchet, Spring Hilder, Bolts and Screws. Based on the results of the computation and testing, the researchers concluded that the rectractable locking device has the capability to pull-out bamboo pile. The device also depends on the applied force of the users. The higher applied force the higher reaction that will cause to pull-out bamboo pile with a maximum of 2.5 KN that this device can resist. The researchers come up with the following recommendations. The future researchers should use light materials with high strength, design a hook that doesn't need the user to dive under the lake to tie the rope on the bamboo pile, modify the design of the clamping plate that makes it unnecessary to use wrench in fastening on the baral and determine the level of acceptability of the retractable locking device for future research.
