Dissertation note: Thesis (Bachelor of Science in Psychology) -- University of Rizal System-Morong. Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study determined the Self-Esteem and Depression of LGBT Young Adults in the muninicipality of Baras, Rizal conducted during school year 2016-2017. The researchers used the descriptive qualitative research design using the adopted instruments such as Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale which is composed of 10-item scales that measures global self-worth to determine the positive side about oneself and Beck's Depression Inventory with the List of statements dealing with the general feelings about oneself and interpreted accoirding to the corresponding scores that determine the level of depression. They were validated by the experts and administered to the 40 LGBT who served as the respondents of the study. The findings of the study revealed that the level of self-esteem of the respondents are high but bisexual young adults obtained the highest mean of 4.15, followed by lesbian with an average mean of 3.91, gay with 3.82 and last is transgender with 3.70, all with High Verbal interpretation. On the level of depression of the LGBT young adults, it disclosed that transgender received the highest mean of 36.90, verbally interpreted as severe depression, followed by lesbian with an average mean of 32.90, next is bisexual with the obtained average mean of 32.80 and last in rank is gay with an average mean of 32.70. Moreover, on the significant relationship, the data revealed that the self-esteem and depression of the bisexual obtained the highest R-value of -.600, with verbal interpretation of high correlation and first in rank, next in rank is transgender with R-value of -.335, with moderate correlation, while lesbian and gay obtained the R-values of -.218 and -.063 rank 3 and 4 respectively noth with verbal interpretation og very low correlation. On significant difference, the data revealed that in terms of self-esteem the computed f-value is 1.065 with the significance level of .376, therefore the null hypothesis is accept with the verbal interpretation of "Not Significant". Whereas, depression obtained the computed f-value is .7.24 with the significance level of .544, therefore the null hypothesis is accept with the verbal interpretation of "Not Significant." Based from the findings, it was recommended that the local government unit including other concerned agencies must continue their advocacy program in promoting the rights of the LGBT people. LGBT people must organize themselves and promote program that can help address their issues and concerns. Support among their family members and other community members must be strengthened to help LGBT people to enhance self-esteem and avoid depression. Dissemination of the results of the study must be ensured to further asserts their needs and concerns. Follow-up study must be conducted considering other variables.
