Self-worth and self-esteem of dropped-out students

Dissertation note: Thesis (Bachelor of Science in Psychology) -- University of Rizal System-Morong. Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study aimed to determine the self-worth and self-esteem of dropped-out students on the selected participants of Tanay, Rizal and Baras, Rizal. The respondents of the study compromised twenty-five (25) respondents from each of the municipalities with a total of fifty (50) respondents. The researchers use random sampling technique in choosing their respondents to get the needed sample representative. The descriptive survey method of research was adopted of the study. Ideas are collected and gathered from different mediums like books, dictionaries, undergraduate thesis and some website. To determine the profile of the participants in terms of age, parents educational attainment, monthly family income and number of family household. The statistical treatment used was frequency, percentage and rank distribution. To determine the extent of parental support given by the parents to their children weighted mean was applied. To determine the level of self-esteem and the level of academic competence of the respondents weighted mean was applied. To find significant difference between self-worth and self-esteem of dropped-out students in terms of their age, parents educational attainment, monthly family income and number of family house-hold. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was utilized. In the line with the result of the study there is more 18 years old dropped-out students. Least of the participants are 17 years old, and for the parent's educational attainment most of the participant's mother and father are high school graduates. The participant's monthly family income belongs to 5,000-9,000. Where in the number of family household are 5-6. The significant difference in the self-worth and self-esteem in terms of their profiles of the participants has the average mean of 3.56. The study failed to reject the null hypothesis that there is no significant difference in between the self-worth and self-esteem of dropped-out students. Municipal Social Welfare and Development and Local Government Unit may open to create seminars, programs for parents and dropped-out students and program to help institution to reach out dropped-out students such as Community Education Support Project, Weekly Monitoring/Tutoring, Motivational, Encouragement and Inspirational Talk, monthly awareness of preventing dropped-out students, Leadership programs to develop ability to cross-boundaries. Institution must intensify reaching out dropped-out students by using some teaching approaches, teaching strategies and trainings. Parallel studies can be conducted by future researchers to the self-worth and self-esteem of the dropped-out students through qualitative research.
