Dissertation note: Thesis (Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering) -- University of Rizal System-Morong. Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This research entitled Conversion of Solid Waste to Fuel Steam Turbine Generator to Generate Electric Energy is focused on designing electrical system that could be in waste to energy conversion. xi As of now, the demand of fuels are gradually increasing and the natural resources are now depleting, thus the researchers led to choose the refused derived fuels as an alternative fuel for power generation. With the help of fluidized bed combustion technique, the decrease of harmful gas emission became possible. The researchers used a small scale boiler to represent the system process. The boiler made up copper tube and an improvised turbine using spoon as blade was used. The generator was directly shafted to the given turbine which droves the turbine to produce electricity to the load. The process started at the furnace system, using the shredded plastic (RDF) as a combustible material, water from the copper tube was heated up and turned into steam that was responsible in propelling the turbine. The generator produced electricity for the loads and one of the requirements for a system load was to provide a safety precaution. The connection of loads and generator needed to be safe. Electrical system design was simply the designing of electrical systems. This greatly involved computations like short circuit analysis and fault calculation needed for safety. Choosing the right size of overcurrent protective device was also very important. It was used for determining the KAIC ratings of the circuit breaker. Faults for example, are one factor that occurred when an overcurrent or short circuit happened on the load. Specifically, when determining the fault current or short current, generator's reactance was used. Reactances were responsible to calculate the flow of symmetrical short circuit current in coordination studies and its second use for generator reactances xii were specifications that limited the subtransient reactance to 12% or less in order to limit the voltage distortion induced by nonlinear loads. In addition, arch flash analysis was also used in providing electrical safety. As a matter for fact, an arch flash was part of an arc fault, a type of electrical explosion or discharge that resulted from low impedance connection through air to ground or another voltage phase in electrical system. It usually occurred when switching on electric circuits and, specially, tripped circuit breakers, so the researchers reflected on this incident that might happen to an individual that led to decision on how to handle situation after fault occurs with electrical engineering formulas and proper knowledge were made possible. The researchers sought to have this as an encouragement to come up with an electrical system design concerning the above problem. Thus the Conversion of Solid Waste to Fuel Steam Turbine Generator to Generate Electricity has been built, developed and completed and to be found effective and can be used in power generation.
