Dissertation note: Thesis (Bachelor of Science in Biology) -- University of Rizal System-Morong. Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The study aimed to isolate, characterized and determine the Antibiotic Activity of Actinomycetesin soil from Mount Sembrano. The study was conducted from June to September 2017 at the University of Rizal System SY. 2017-2018. The study used descriptive design in determining the growth profile of isolated, characterization in terms of colonymorphology, gramstain reaction, and catalase reaction and antibiotic potential against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcis aureus. The study made use of the following procedures: preparation of materials to be used, collection of soil in two sites in Mount Sembrano, treatment of soil, preparation of culture media, dilution of soil, purification of Actinomycetes, counting of colony, isolation of Actinomycetes, morphological analysis of Actinomycetes, slanting, grams staining, catalase test, antibiotic production, and examination of inhibition of organism. Descriptive discussions were used to determine the profile of isolated Actinomycetes in terms of rate of growth, characteristics and determine the antibiotic potential of isolated Actinomycetes against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcisaureus. The isolation characterization and antibiotic potential test was done in 3rd floor College of Science bldg. B. because the tools and apparatuses needed for the experiment were available there. The result of the study revealed that the morphology of forty three (43) isolates were filamentous, curled, and entire. Moreover, the biochemical and physiological test results revealed that all forty three (43) isolates were grams positive and catalase positive with the exception of isolates 19 in soil 1 which is catalase negative. Moreover, the results from Antibiotic potential test revealed that Actinomycetes are active against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcis aureus. It was therefore concluded that based from the findings of the study, that actinomycetes can be isolated from mount sembrano soil, characterized mostly gram positive and have antibiotic potential against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcisaureus.
