Dissertation note: Thesis (Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Technology and Livelihood Education) -- University of Rizal System-Morong. Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The study aimed to develop and determine the level of acceptability of decorative tile utilizing fish scales. The study was conducted during school yeasr 2014-2015 and employed the developmental-descriptive method of research utilizing questionnaire-checklist and impact test as the research instrument. The respondents of the study are composed of Civil Technology professors, Construction workers, Entrepreneurs and Houseowners, Civil Technology Students and Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Technology and Livelihood Education students. The used and design of fish scales as decorative tile underwent different procedures. It started in soaking the fish scales in a basin filled with detergent for 24 hours. This is done to clean and remove bad odors. In order to have a various colors, the fish scales are dyed into small bowl. Then it is placed on a piece of cloth to absorb excess moisture and avoid warping. After the fish scales have dried, it is glued together in different design and color combinations to form single plate. The hardener was mixed with R10-60 Polyster for the preparation of the tiles. The mixture was poured into the molder then dried. Lastly, after the mixture was dried it is removed from the molder to get the decorative tile, The researchers observed on the try-out and revision that too much hardener can cause the fish scale decorative tile to crack and the move more hardener was added, the shorter the drying time of fish scale decorative tile. To determine the level of acceptability of the developed product in terms of aesthetic design, workability, economic aspect, environmental friendliness, marketability and durability weighted mean was used. To determine the significant difference between fish scale decorative tile and commercial decorative tile, Independent t-test was used. The result from the evaluation made by the respondents on the level of acceptability of fish scale decorative tile in terms of aesthetic design, workability, economic aspect, environmental friendliness, marketability and durability was "Very Much Accepted". It was also revealed that there are significant difference on the level of acceptability of the fish scale decorative tiles and commercial decorative tiles as evaluated by the responents in terms of environmental friendliness and durability, and there are significant difference on the level of acceptability of the fidh scale decorative tiles and commercial decorative tiles. The researchers concuded that fish scales are suitable to be utilized as decorative tiles. It wasl also concluded that on the try-out and revision, too much hardener can cause the fish scale decorative tile to crack and the more hardener was added, the shorter the drying time of fish scale decorative tile. Furthermore, on the acceptability of fish scale decorative tile, the researchers concluded that it was very much accepted in terms of aesthetic design, workability, economic aspect, environmental friendliness, marketability and durability, and there are significant difference on the level of acceptability of the fish scale decorativfe tiles and commercial decorative tiles. The researchers also recommended that further study shpuld be undertaken focusing on the other binding substance and utilization of indigenous materials such as fish scales from other fish species to attain maximum efficiency of the developed product. It was also recommended that mixing machine should be designed and developed for mass production purposes. Moreover, the researchers also recommend that acceptability of fish scale decorative tile should be measured with other variables such as quality and usefulness, marketability criterion of the fish scale decorative tile should be enhanced and bigger sample of respondents should be used. it was also recommended that fish scale decorative should be patented.
