Dissertation note: Thesis BSOA-Office Management University of Rizal System, Binangonan 2017 Summary: This study was conducted to determine the shorthand competencies of fourth Year BSOA students of University of Rizal System for the Academic Year 2016-2017. The study used descriptive method to gather information using questionnaire checklist. Specifically, it sought to answer the Shorthand Competencies of Fourth Year Bachelor of Science in Office Administration Students of University of Rizal System Academic Year 2016-2017. Variables such as campus, age, sex, and grade in shorthand 1, 2, 3, and 5 were considered. The respondents of the study were the seventy three (73) of fourth Year students coming from Antipolo, Binangonan, Pilillia, Rodriguez, and Tanay campus who offered BSOA program. The findings resulted that out of 73 respondents, most of the students were aged 20-25 and majority was female with 64 or 87. 67 percent than male for 9 or 12.33 percent. The students are not competent in terms of accuracy, speed, and transcription. None of the respondents met the qualifying 30-50 words-a-minute with 98 percent accuracy based on CHED Memo Order Section 6. Thus, the assessment on Shorthand Competency of BSOA students resulted to "Not Competent." Based on the findings of the study, the researchers drafted the following recommendations. More practice and speed test in writing and transcribing shorthand should be given to be able to master the writing shorthand. A writing contest across campuses to be held more often to motivate students to strengthen their writing skills. The Shorthand instructors should be stricter in teaching shorthand. Moreover, adding another Shorthand subject for fourth Year level is recommended.
