Thesis (Bachelor of Science in Guidance and Counseling) -- University of Rizal System-Morong.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The study was designed to analyze the self-esteem and coping strategies of teenage mothers in University of Rizal System Morong. The respondents of the study were described according to age when got pregnant, year level and marital status. The respondents were chosen through purposive sampling technique. In order to know the level of self-esteem and extent of coping strategies of the respondents, the study used questionnaire checklist as the main instrument in conducting of the study in order to determine the self-esteem and coping strategies of teenage mothers in University of Rizal System-Morong. The data gathered were treated using frequency and percentage distribution in determining the self-esteem and coping strategies of teenage mothers with respect to various aspects and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to find out the significant difference of self-esteem and coping strategies of teenage mothers and the relationship between the level of self-esteem and extent of coping strategies of teenage mothers Pearson-r was utilized. Based from the summary of findings presented, the following conclusions, recommendations are hereby presented. Most of the teenage mothers got pregnant at the age of 17, third year college and separated. The self-esteem of teenage mothers is very high on social confidence. The coping mechanisms is always on appraisal-focused. The profile of the respondents is found significant to age when got pregnant and in marital status while not significant on year level. The profile of the respondents is not contributory to the coping strategies with respect to appraisal-focused but contributory to problem-focused and emotions-focused. Self-esteem and coping strategies of teenage mothers are related. The study recommends that workshop and seminars should be organized by the educational institutions for teenage mothers who are enrolled in the university, parent's orientation should be conducted by the educational institution for the guidance of their children and parallel study may be conducted considering other variables.
