Dissertation note: Thesis BSF University of Rizal System. Cardona 2016 Summary: This study is an attempt to determine the status, problems and prospects of private hatchery in the Province of Rizal. The objectives of the study was to determine the current status of private hatchery, determine the problems encountered of private hatchery in over-all operation, determine the solution and remedies applied to the problems encountered during the operation of hatchery, and determine the future prospects of private hatchery in the Province of Rizal. The Descriptive Research Design was used in this study to depict the participants, in an accurate way. Questionnaire checklist was used to gather information from the respondents, to determine the status, problems, and prospects of the private hatchery in the Province of Rizal. The result of the study carried out from twenty two (22) private hatcheries mostly in Pililla, Rizal revealed that 17 out of 22 respondents or 70% of them were operating 11 years and above , 70% or 17out of 22 respondents have hatchery area about .5 ha and below, and 59% or 13 out of 22 respondents have a capital ranging from Php 100,000 below and almost 95% or 21 out of 22 respondents employed only 1 staff/ caretaker and 45% or 10 out of the 22 respondents gave Php. 250.00 to their caretaker as salary, however 45% or 10 out of 22 respondents have an average monthly income ranging from Php 20,001-Php 40,000 and almost 72% or 16 out of 22 respondents were spawning tilapia, and 50% or 11 out of 22 respondents were producing 500,000 below fry annually and 70% or 14 out of a 22 respondents sold it for 5 centavos while 86% or 19 out of 22 respondents were producing 50,000 and below fingerlings annually and 45% or 10 out of 22 respondents sold it for 15 centavos. And 65% or 15 out of 22 respondents were using ponds in their operation and 41% or 9 out of the 22 respondents have a buyer which using fish cages, 41% or 9 out of 22 respondents encountered water supply as the major problem. Majority of the hatchery operator used fish ponds and most of the buyers are both using pens and cages. The major problem that private hatchery owner/operator encountered is water supply and the basic solution that can support this is to build a deep well or use a method known as recirculating aquaculture system and to continue gaining and acquiring knowledge by attending seminars. In addition, find a reliable source of water so that when summer comes it will not affect the spawning period. Based on the that we gathered and interpreted, we therefore conclude that a private hatchery is beneficial to the people of Rizal, because it is located in Laguna de Bay, and most of them engage in aquaculture business. So private hatchery is needed in the Province of Rizal to sustain and to supply the fish seed needed in the aquaculture business located in Rizal and also to give an extra income to the people of Rizal by engaging in hatchery business and aquaculture industry. It can also contributed to the fish production of Rizal.
