Dissertation note: Thesis Master of Arts in Teaching major in Science University of Rizal System-Morong 2017 Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study focused on the development and validation of enhancement activities in teaching biology for grade 8 conducted during the first grading period of the school year 2017-2018 at guronasyon foundation inc. national high school, binangonan, rizal. A combination of descriptive, developmental and quasi-experimental research designs were utilized in the study. Developmental method was used in designing the enhancement activities while the descriptive method was used in determining its acceptability in terms of contents, activities, usefulness, style and presentation, organization and evaluation. Likewise, the quasi-experimental design was used in determining the level of performance of the students. To determine the performance of the students before and after exposure to enhancement activities in different lessons, mean and standard deviation were used. Dependent t-test was utilized in determining the significant difference on the level of performance of the students in their mean posttest score. To determine the level of acceptability of the enhancement activities in teaching grade 8 biology evaluated by the faculty experts with respect to contents, activities, usefulness, style and presentation, mean was applied. The enhancement activities included in the study are the lessons on taxonomy. Digestive system, genetics and ecology. Random sampling was utilized in choosing the students respondents and faculty respondents who evaluated the enhancement activities in teaching grade 8 biology. The study presented the results as: the performance of the experimental group of respondents fall under the same bracket with a verbal interpretation of fair indicating that at the start of the experiment, the two groups of respondents are in the same level in terms of their knowledge in biology; the performance of the experimental group increased after the exposure to the developed enhancement materials from fair to very satisfactory in taxonomy, ecology and cytology but only satisfactory in digestive system and genetics; the lessons and fairly performed in taxonomy; there was a significant difference on the level of performance of the experimental group with respect to the difference on the level of performance of the experimental group with respect to the different lessons in biology which rejected the null hypothesis; there was a significant difference on the level of performance of the control group in ecology, digestive system and cytology but the study accepted the null hypothesis that there was no significant difference in the performance of the control group in taxonomy and genetics; the study rejected the null hypothesis that there was no significant difference on the level of performance of the experimental and control groups as evidently shown in the pretest and posttest results, implying that the module and the enhancement activities in teaching grade 8 biology increased the performance of the two groups of respondents; and the developed enhancement activities in teaching biology is highly accepted in terms of content, activities, usefulness and style and presentation. Based on the findings, the paper concluded that; enhancement activities in grade 8 biology increased the level of performance of the learner; the enhancement activities improved the performance of the students in biology. The enhancement materials in grade 8 biology is highly acceptable as evaluated by experts. Hence, the material possessed the characteristics of a good instructional material.
