Dissertation note: Thesis (Bachelor in Science in Psychology) -- University of Rizal System-Morong. Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study determined the relationship between bystander condition and altruistic behavior. The variables used bystander condition which are number of bystander and the type of situation whether alarming and non-emergency were used to determine the altruistic behavior of Filipinos. This study was conducted in five barangays in Tanay, Rizal during the second semester of the school year 2015-2016. This study used purposive sampling technique in choosing the participants needed in the study. The study utilizes the exploratory design in which the researchers conducted a research when there are few or no earlier studied to refer to. Afterwards, frequency is used while the social experiment was being conducted followed by a questionnaire checklist for measuring altruistic behavior. Then, the data were tallied, tabulated and interpreted. Weighted mean was used as statistical treatment to determine the level of altruism of the participants. T-test was used to determine if there is a significant difference between the presence of bystanders and the type of helping situation. Then, to determine the level of altruism of the participants, likert scale was used. On the basis of foregoing findings, the types of helping situations don't have a significant effect on altruistic behavior, and bystander effect is not true to Filipinos. Hence, the researchers recommend that Social Government Units may continuously provide alarming and non-emergency measures to respond in a helping situation, future researchers may perform Darley and Latane's experiment entirely in urban places, future researchers may use other independent variable to test the consistency of Filipinos' altruistic behavior, same research may be replicated in different settings and may conduct comparative study, and community officials may conduct seminars promoting the importance of high altruism of Filipinos to educate them in preserving it for next generations.
