Dissertation note: Thesis Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics University of Rizal System-Morong 2018 Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The study aimed to analyze the mathematical language performance of selected junior high school students in University of Rizal System Morong-Laboratory School. This was conducted at University of Rizal System Morong-Laboratory School during School Year 2017-2018. The study made use of researcher-made test where the items are categorized in terms of symbols, terminologies and mathematical statements in junior high school in which they were content validated by the experts. To determine the level of mathematical language performance of selected junior high school learners in URSM-Laboratory School in terms of symbols, terminologies, and mathematical statements, mean was used. However, to determine the problems encountered by the respondents in understanding mathematical language, frequency and percentage distribution was used. Moreover, to determine what innovative materials could be proposed based on the findings of the study, qualitative discussion was applied. The study found out that the selected junior high school students of the laboratory school acquired adequate knowledge in relation with the mathematical language with respect to Grade 7 learners interpreted as satisfactory, with respect to Grade 8 learners interpreted as fairly satisfactory, with respect to Grade 9 learners interpreted as satisfactory, and with respect to Grade 10 learners interpreted as satisfactory. The study found out that the problems encountered by the respondents in understanding mathematical language are: naming and getting the meaning of the symbols; and understanding and applying the mathematical language. The output that could be proposed based on the findings of the study is the Wordbook of Mathematics. It contains the different terminologies and mathematical statements where students experience difficulties according to the findings of the study. Based on the summary of findings, the study concluded that the selected junior high school students of the laboratory school acquired adequate knowledge in relation with the mathematical language. Based on the summary of findings and conclusions drawn, the following recommendations are hereby offered: mathematics teachers should use appropriate mathematical language for the students communicate mathematically; vocabulary building must be a part of teaching-learning process; and parallel study must be conducted using other variables.
