Dissertation note: Undergraduate Study Thesis Bachelor of Secondary Education University of Rizal System 2010 Summary: This study aimed to know the difficulties encountered by the first year students of Montalban Heights National High School in Translating verbal phrases into mathematical statements. It involved 90 students as respondents of the study. The descriptive method of research was used with the questionnaire as the main instrument to gather data. The frequency and percentage distributions were used to show the profile of the respondents particularly to the sex, school graduated from and parents educational attaintment. The t-test and one way ANOVA were employed to find out if there exist a significant difference between the difficulties of the respondents with regards to their profile.
