Dissertation note: Thesis Bachelor of Elementary Education major in Content Courses University of Rizal System-Morong 2018 Summary: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The main purpose of this study was to develop and determine the acceptability of the developed competency-based health. Attitude, resilience and trust (heart) komiks in teaching edukasyon sa pagpapakatao. Descriptive developmental and experimental methods of research utilizing a researcher-made checklist, pretest and post-test as tools in gathering needed data. After conceptualizing the contents of the stories, artists were commissioned to illustrate the agreed contents of the komiks with four (4) topics namely: health, attitude, resilience and trust. The topics were based from the competencies of the curriculum in "edukasyon sa pagpapakatao 3" (ESP 3). To determine the level of acceptability of the developed heart komiks, a teacher from university of rizal system laboratory school and 12 teachers from 3 big public elementary schools in morong served as the respondents of the study. Further, researcher made pretest and posttest involving four (4) values namely: personal well-being, respect for others, courage and honesty, which were subjected to content validation by experts, were administered to grade 3 pupils of urs laboratory school before and after exposure to heart komiks respectively. Findings revealed that the developed heart komiks as evaluated by the teachers of esp was "very highly acceptable". The level of understanding of grade 3 pupil-participants before and after exposure of heart komiks for esp 3 in four (4) topics are: On "personal well-being", the pupils performed very satisfactory in the pretest and posttest, on "respect for others:, the pupils performed very satisfactory in the pretest while in the posttest, they performed outstanding, on "courage", the pupils performed satisfactorily in the pretest while in the posttest, they performed very satisfactory in the pretest and posttest. Furthermore, the significant difference on the level of understanding of grade 3 before and after exposure to heart komiks was tested. On the topics "personal well-being" and "respect for others", statistically, the result were found "significant, while on the topics "courage" and honesty" the difference were found, statistically, "not significant". Based from the summary of findings, it was concluded that the developed heart komiks helped the pupils understand the meanings of values illustrated which resulted to improved performance in the formative assessment. Hence, the following recommendations are offered; encourage teachers' creativity in preparing learning materials for different lessons to engage more young learners in academic activities; expose pupils to varied modes of learning materials for more meaningful facilitation of learning activities; utilize the competency based heart komiks; produce more competency-based heart komiks integrating other Filipino values; and conduct further studies involving Filipino values such as resilience and trust.
