Educated and skilled people are necessary ingredients of democratic society and developing countries. The demands on the learners have increase substantially because they must acquire knowledge, skills and attitude required by knowledge economy on a broader and deeper scale. Since the teachers are the key to these changes, they are required to be in the frontline of innovation, continually seeking out new and better ways of teaching using modern technology. Technology with its ever increasing demand on education help leaners acquire high-level skills that allow them and to analyze, make decision and solve complex problems. One of the most widely used electronic sources these days is Electronic book (e-book) is a book composed in or can be converted to digital format to display on computer screen or house hold device. It offers a new way of reading to experience which interacts with its content. It also encourage readers to take an active, self directed role in how they learn, letting them make individual decision about which path they take through a text.
This study is focused on the developmental and evaluation of E-Book on selected topics in Agriculture with respect to content, objectives, format and style, navigation, usability and applicability. It was conducted during the school year 2012-2013 at University of Rizal System in Cluster 2.
The development and evaluation of E-book on selected topics in Agriculture was evaluated by the respondents in terms of contents, objectives, format and style and usability and applicability with respect to their profile using a questionnaire-checklist. To measure the central tendency, Weighted Mean and Standard Deviation were used for the evaluation and verbal interpretation of score like Likert Scale.
The researchers considered the following steps in conducting the research development and evaluation of e-book on selected topics in Agriculture. The selection of the topics included development of e-book, administration of questionnaire-checklist and evaluation. On the profile of the respondents in terms of Highest Educational Attainment, respondents with masters degree ranked 1 where in as all respondents preferred to teach in college because they have completed Masters Degree and pursuing Doctorate Degree: Length of service experience, 6-10 years was ranked 1, whereas, it implies that majority of the experts have been teaching for 6 years and above and they are the seasoned teachers of URS in Cluster 2. On the assessment of the respondents on the developed e-book in terms of contents, objectives, format and style, usability and applicability, contents of the developed e-book got an average mean standard deviation of .366 with the verbal interpretation of highly acceptable. Objectives got an average mean of 4.28and standard deviation of 394 with the verbal interpretation of highly acceptable. Format and style got an average mean of 4.32and standard deviation of 276 with the verbal interpretation of highly acceptable. Usability got an average mean of 4.13 and standard deviation of 320 with verbal interpretation of acceptable. Applicability got an average mean of 4.06 and standard deviation of 359 with acceptable verbal interpretation.
The results implied that there is no significant difference in terms of objectives, format and style and usability and applicability with respect to the profile of the respondents in terms of educational attainment. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the development and evaluation of e-book on selected topics in Agriculture was acceptable.
Based on the results of the study, the study is recommended for both students and instructors in terms of teaching-learning situation process. The study is designed to provide the new students with a good solid foundation on this area which is important for future studies.
