| Summary, etc. | EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study aimed to develop and determine the acceptability of the computer-aided instructional material in teaching self-help skills for children with autism during the School Year 2014-2015. The study utilized the developmental descriptive research method using an adapted modified questionnaire checklist for evaluation of the instructional materials. In the development of the computer-aided instructional material, the researchers considered two major topics in developing the self-help skills of children with autism such as brushing teeth and trimming fingernails. Qualitative analysis was used to describe how the CAIM in teaching self-help skills for CWA developed; weighted mean was utilized to determine its acceptability; and independent t-test was used to determine the significant difference on the level of acceptability of the CAIM in teaching self-help as evaluated by the two groups of respondents. The study revealed that the overall mean for the two groups of respondents on the level of acceptability of the computer-aided instructional materials in teaching self-help skills for children with autism with respect to objectives of 4.29 and verbally interpreted as "Highly Acceptable", with respect to content, the overall mean for two groups of respondents is 4.33 and verbally interpreted as "Highly Acceptable" with respect to language and style, the overall mean for two groups of respondents is 4.19 and verbally interpreted as "Very Acceptable", with respect to Technical aspect, the overall mean for two groups of respondents is 4.31 and verbally interpreted as "highly Acceptable". It was also revealed that no significant difference existed between the evaluations of the respondents on the acceptability of the computer-aided instructional materials in teaching self-help skills for children with autism with respect to objectives, contents, language and style and technical aspects. In totally, it was concluded that the developed computer-aided instructional material in teaching self-help skills for children with autism is accepted, useful and can be utilized as an instructional material in teaching self-help skills for children with autism. It is recommended to utilized the developed computer-aided instructional material (CAIM) in teaching self-help skills as instructional material and conduct the study on the effectiveness of the computer-aided instructional material (CAIM) in teaching self-help skills to children with autism. |
