| Summary, etc | This research aimed to determine the effects of engaging in early sexual activities among grade 9 students in Montalban Heights National High School. Fifteen (15) students were randomly selected from different sections. The researchers use descriptive qualitative research method.<br/><br/>Based on the finding of the study on the profile of the respondents, there were 10 males and 5 females. In terms of number in the family, nine members was the highest. In terms of family income, 20,000 pesos was the highest. In terms of previous grade average, most of them had low average. On the sexual activities, most of the respondents were engaged in were kissing, hugging, and holding hands. Only one among them revealed that he had engaged in sex.<br/><br/>On the reason why respondents engaged in early sexual activities, top among them seeking love and attention from their parents, they were curious and they were physically attracted to their opposite sex<br/><br/>On the effect of sexual activities to their academics, most of them admitted that they lost focused on their studies. They got engrossed more with their<br/><br/>partner.<br/><br/>With regards to the problems encountered by the respondents in their early engagement to sexual activities, they disclosed family problem like parents separation topped among them.<br/><br/>With regards to their suggestions, prominent among them were proper Guidance and open communications with their parents.<br/><br/>From the enumerated findings, the following conclusions were drawn.<br/><br/>Most of the respondents were male who had low grade percent average and they belonged to low income yet big family in terms of number, Kissing, hugging and holding hands are the common sexual activities done by the high school students, They lack parents' attention why they engaged in sexual activities, and Academic performance was affected when students got focused to their partners.<br/><br/>In line with the foregoing conclusions, the study recommended to the students, they should develop their awareness about the possible effects of early sexual activities which can result to the low performances in academics, early pregnancy and contracted sexually Transmitted Disease (STD). Teachers, they should discourage the students of having early relationships by relating the lesson into latest problem of the society which the increasing of the number of teenage pregnancies and other consequences. Parents, they should commit as close family ties which there exists a strong mutual relationship bonded by love, understanding and respect towards each family member in order for them to guide their children. School Administrators, they should provide of having a family counseling which requires the parents to cooperate well for the good of their children and their family that will be headed by the non-teaching personnel's or other school administrators. This family counseling helps the family members to improve communication, resolve conflicts and to develop family members' interactions. And there should be having improvement of security by putting Closed-circuit television (CCTV) especially in school premises. Local Government Unit (LGU), they should be having rules and regulations regards to curfew hours, gambling, drinking liquors, buying cigars among minor age should be strictly prohibited. Future researchers, they should make an interview in a private room so that the interview will be more focus. Guidance Counselor, they should consider the result of study to give action in accommodating in discouraging the student in engaging in early sexual activities. And lastly to the teachers, they should integrate the values in discouraging the students to involve in sexual activities. |
