| Summary, etc | This study aimed to determine the techniques used by teachers in promoting reading outside the classroom. This research was conducted in Kasiglahan Elementary School with 15 teacher respondents, School Year 2017-2018.<br/><br/>This study used qualitative method of research which attempted to describe related situations and problems. In view of this, the researchers conducted the study to know if there were techniques that teachers used in promoting reading outside the classroom among their pupils.<br/><br/>From the gathered and analyzed data the following findings were drawn:<br/><br/>Most of the female teachers had masteral degree and had been teaching for more than three years<br/><br/>Teachers allowed pupils to bring home books, some gave assignments with comprehensive questions, other employed extrinsic motivation in a form of chips, candies and additional points. Some teachers did home visitations to personally talk with the parents.<br/><br/>The problems encountered by the teachers in conducting intervention for reading most parents were not cooperative to follow up and the pupils themselves lack motivation to enhance their reading ability.<br/><br/>With the stated findings, the following conclusions were drawn: Teachers continued to pursue higher degree to enhance their teaching competencies particularly in developing reading skills of their pupils. Teachers employ variety of techniques to encourage pupils to read. Cooperation among the key players are needed to help pupils stay motivated in reading.<br/><br/>In view of the conclusions made on the basis of the findings of the study, the following recommendations are given: Teachers are encouraged to finish their masteral degree for personal growth and continue on attending seminars to cultivate students' love for reading. Students are encouraged know the importance of reading and how reading affects their academic performance on school. Administrators are encouraged to think of programs on how to promote reading outside the classroom. Schools should also take part for the intervention to be effective. Parents are encouraged to always make time to look after their children's performance in school. They should be working hand in hand with the teachers so that the strategies will be effective. Future Researchers are encouraged to make this a basis of their future research and continue on researching about this. |
