| Summary, etc | The study aimed to determine how Multicultural Education Applied in Teaching Science among Grade 7 students.<br/><br/>A Qualitative research was utilized to attain the objective of the study. The respondents of the study are the 7 teachers from Burgos National High School, and 3 Teachers and 10 students from Montalban Heights National High School who served as the respondents of the study.<br/><br/>Based from the gathered data that comes from a series of interviews and observations the following findings were summarized The teacher respondents apply multicultural education in teaching science: (1) said that she apply multicultural education in teaching science through integration of values, (4) said that they used free sharing of beliefs and practices, (4) said that they promote respect one another traditions and beliefs, and (1) said that she relate their beliefs and practices to the current lessons/discussions.<br/><br/>The teacher used strategies like cooperative approach and collaborative learning in teaching science as part of multicultural education. The common problem that the teacher encountered inside the classroom is the students discipline and their diction and sometimes is stressful on the part of the teacher. The teachers handled the student's differences through continuous follow up and counseling.<br/><br/>Students respond to multicultural education through; participating and adopt the given activities, sharing their beliefs and cultures in the class, giving ideas about their cultures, showing of interest on the activities; they cooperate with their classmates as part of criteria/ rubrics; and they used mother tongue to express their ideas.<br/><br/>In terms of the problem encountered by the Science Teachers in teaching Multicultural Education: most of them said that the common problem they have encountered inside the classroom is the student's discipline, bullying in terms of their cultural differences and stressful on the part of the teachers. The teachers also asked their opinion about the effectiveness of applying multicultural education most of them said that teachers must incorporate localization on different cultures, teachers must know the interest of the students and think of an activity suited to them, one said that attending seminars about applying multicultural education can be best of help, and some teachers said we must know the cultural background of the students and used reliable materials suited to their interest.<br/><br/>Based on the findings the following conclusions were drawn. Most of the students come from different provinces like Visayas, Leyte, Bicol, Ilocos, Zamboanga, and southem tagalong. The teachers used different techniques and strategies in teaching students having different cultural backgrounds, religions, beliefs, traditions and practices. The teacher used strategies like cooperative approach and collaborative learning in teaching science as part of multicultural education. The students participate and cooperate well inside the classroom even they are different in cultures and try to adopt the new environment they have. The common problem that the teacher encountered inside the classroom is the student discipline, bullying in terms of their cultural differences, and their diction and sometimes is stressful on the part of the teacher. The teachers handled the student's differences through continuous follow up and counseling.<br/><br/>In line with the findings and conclusions, the following recommendations were finalized. The teachers are highly encouraged to used Multicultural education associated activity since it is now proven, that the multicultural education is really helpful in teaching. The students should consider and regard the idea of applying multicultural education for their learning. As well as the school administrators since the study revealed that multicultural education are really beneficial on the study of the students; they must maintain and improve the teaching strategies and approaches of the teachers in the school. |
