Summary, etc The study aimed to develop, validate and determine the acceptability of modules based on the novel "The Prince and the Pauper" by Mark Twain which will serve as supplementary instructional material in teaching English and American Literature.<br/><br/>The study made use of the experimental method utilizing the single group<br/><br/>pre-test post-test single group design and also descriptive method with evaluative design. The instruments used in the study were the researchers made pre-test and post-test, developed modules and questionnaire-checklist used to evaluate the acceptability of the material in terms of objectives, contents, activities, creativity, organization, style and presentation and evaluation. To find the level of the performance of the students in pre-test and post-test percentage,<br/><br/>frequency and mean were utilized. To determine the significant difference between the performances of the students in the pre-test and post-test with respect to the developed modules. t- test for dependent means were applied; to determine the acceptability of the modules as perceived by faculty respondents in terms of objectives, contents, activities, creativity, organization, style and presentation and evaluation, average mean was used.<br/><br/>The respondents of the study were composed of two groups: 32High School Students for pre-test and post test and 10 English teachers from San Isidro national High School and professors for the evaluation of the modules from the University of Rizal System Rodriguez.<br/><br/>The instruments used in the study were the 50-item researcher made test modules, and a questionnaire-checklist used to evaluate the acceptability of the modules in terms of objectives, contents, activities, organization, creativity, style and presentation and evaluation.<br/><br/>On the mean score of the respondents, pre-test has 22.68 in the pre-test post-test has 47.28.<br/><br/>On the significant difference between the mean score of the respondents, the p value 0.000 is less than 0.5 level of significance and the null hypothesis is rejected.<br/><br/>On the acceptability of the modules, the following weighted means were obtained. Objectives has 4. 59, contents has 4. 51, activities has 4.51, creativity has 4.55, organization has 4.55, style and presentation has 4.56 and evaluation has 4.56.<br/><br/>Base on the findings, it was concluded that the exposure to the developed modules based on the novel, The Prince and the Pauper, improved the students' performance. There is a significant difference between the mean score of the pre-test and the post-test. The developed modules were evaluated "Very Acceptable" and it can be use a s a supplementary instructional materials in literature.<br/><br/>Based on the results of the study, the researchers highly recommend the following: to the students, they were encouraged to be independent learners. They should also give attention to the instructional materials that they have. Through this, they can practice to learn by themselves and develop their critical thinking skills. To the teachers, they can use these instructional materials as another and new strategy in dealing with the students. It will also improve some of their skills in doing and facilitating activities. They are encouraged to give focus in facilitating and help the students learn on their own. And to see this as an effective tool for learning, teachers are encouraged to create their own modules to be used by their respective schools. To curriculum planners and administrators of alternative learning system (ALS), the study could be used as a tool and effective way in learning, thus the administrators are encouraged to finance the production and utilization of instructional materials in school, and motivate teachers to create more instructional materials in different areas.
