| Summary, etc | This study investigates the effects of body shaming among college students at the University of Rizal System, Rodriguez Campus, with a specific focus on understanding the impact of body shaming on students' mental and emotional well-being. The research aims to explore the demographic profiles of affected students, highlight the negative consequences of body shaming, and identify coping mechanisms utilized to address this pervasive issue.

Data were collected through surveys and interviews with 20 college students, allowing for a comprehensive examination of their experiences with body shaming. The findings reveal a significant prevalence of body shaming experiences among respondents, with the majority falling within the age range of 18 to 23 years. Notably, 60% of participants identified as female, which suggests a heightened vulnerability to body image issues in this demographic. The study found that body shaming adversely affects students, resulting in low self-esteem, anxiety, and overall diminished mental health. Such consequences underscore the urgent need for educational institutions to address this issue proactively and to foster a supportive environment for all students.

The findings further indicate that while students are aware of the negative implications of body shaming, responses to such experiences vary. Participants described coping strategies that included fostering self-love, employing nonchalance towards derogatory comments, and utilizing distraction techniques to mitigate emotional distress. These coping mechanisms highlight the resilience of many students and their ability to navigate challenges posed by societal pressures related to body image.

In conclusion, this study emphasizes the critical need for increased awareness, educational outreach, and support systems to combat body shaming in college. environments. It is essential for universities to implement programs that promote body positivity and mental health awareness, thereby empowering students to advocate for themselves and their peers. Recommendations include organizing workshops on self-acceptance, integrating discussions about body image into the curriculum, and establishing support groups for students facing body shaming challenges.

Additionally, future research is recommended to explore the long-term effects of body shaming on students' academic performance and emotional well-being. By examining these dynamics, educators and policymakers can contribute to creating a more positive and inclusive atmosphere that supports mental health and promotes healthy body image among students. Through concerted efforts to address body shaming in educational settings, the potential for fostering a healthy, supportive, and empowering environment for all students can be realized. |
