Summary, etc This study investigates the challenges and difficulties faced by single parents residing in Kasiglahan Village, Barangay San Jose, Rodriguez, Rizal, with a keen focus on understanding how these challenges impact their children's development and the coping mechanisms they employ. Given the increasing number of single-parent families, it is essential to explore the demographic characteristics of these individuals, the obstacles they encounter, and their strategies for managing the dual roles of caregiver and provider.<br/><br/>The research aimed to answer several critical questions: (1) What is the demographic profile of the respondents concerning age, gender, civil status, number of children, occupation, economic status, and duration of single parenthood? (2) What specific challenges do single parents face concerning their children's development, including financial support, work-life balance, emotional struggles, and decision-making? (3) What coping mechanisms do single parents utilize in response to these challenges?<br/><br/>Utilizing a sample of 20 single parents from the local community, this descriptive study employed interviews and questionnaires to gather qualitative data. The findings revealed a predominant demographic of middle-aged individuals, with 90% of respondents being female. Most respondents were separated, highlighting the prevalence of legal separation among single parents in the village. Financial instability was identified as a significant barrier for these individuals, with many struggling to meet their children's basic needs and educational expenses due to low income and irregular job situations.<br/><br/>The findings further indicated that nearly half of the respondents prioritized childcare over work responsibilities, often leading to increased stress levels. Emotional well-being was also a concern, with a substantial percentage of parents expressing feelings of loneliness and overwhelm. Despite these challenges, many single parents displayed resilience and resourcefulness in managing their responsibilities. The study identified various coping mechanisms employed by respondents, such as seeking assistance from family and friends, relying on spirituality, and engaging in self-care activities, albeit limited due to time constraints.<br/><br/>The conclusions drawn from this research highlight the multifaceted nature of the challenges faced by single parents and the need for a deeper understanding of their circumstances. Factors such as financial pressures, emotional struggles, and the complexities of balancing work and family life all play a crucial role in shaping the experiences of single parents. Furthermore, the study underscores the importance of providing support systems that address these challenges, recognizing that single parents require not only financial assistance but also emotional and social support.<br/><br/>Based on the findings and drawn conclusions, several recommendations have been proposed. Local Government Units (LGUs) are encouraged to enhance financial support initiatives and improve access to essential services for single parents. Educational institutions should establish programs that foster parental involvement and provide academic support for children of single parents. Additionally, community organizations and NGOs should focus on creating support networks that facilitate emotional well-being and resource sharing among single parents. Employers are urged to implement family-friendly policies, and national government agencies should develop comprehensive policies to support single-parent families through economic, healthcare, and social protections.<br/><br/>In conclusion, this study adds to the discourse surrounding the unique challenges of single parenthood while advocating for targeted interventions and policy reforms that can improve the quality of life for single parents and their children. Further research is recommended to explore the long-term impacts of parenting styles and support systems on the academic and emotional outcomes of children in single-parent households. Through these efforts, communities can foster an environment that not only acknowledges but also actively supports the single-parent family structure, aiming for a holistic approach to enhancing the well-being of these families.
