| Summary, etc | This study examined the effects of social media on first-year English major students' phonetics learning at the University of Rizal System Rodriguez school year 20232024. The research used qualitative design method and used interview guide questionnaire to gather first-hand information among 20 respondents.

Social Leaming Theory developed by Jean Piaget, supports the study. This study suggests that leaning with interaction, participation and observation makes the learning more effective. The study used Qualitative study design and used random sampling to know about the effects of social media to the phonetics learning of English major students at the University of Rizal System Rodriguez during the 2023-2024 school year.

According to the research, YouTube was the most widely used social media site for phonetics learning since it included video lessons that let users hear how words should be spoken, Social media was seen to be a practical and useful resource for learning phonetics. However, depending on the socioeconomic condition of the students, there were found inequalities when it comes to effective use of social media for this purpose, with students from lower social classes experiencing more barriers. Social media presented distractions that could impair focus even if it made leaming phonetics easier and more accessible. Students also recommended that in order to improve the accuracy and legitimacy of information and to avoid distractions, a website or app that is only for studying phonetics should be developed. |
