520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc The objective of this research work was to study the types of listeners in the classrooms. There were twenty (20) respondents observed during the study. It was conducted at San Jose Rodriguez, Rizal using the Qualitative Method of research design. The main instrument used to gather data were Interview guide, Storytelling and Old Music. The researchers observed the reaction, behavior and manner of the respondents toward listening. The Interview Guide consisting of
seven (7) questions were used to know the types of story or music they prefer, to know the hindrances for them to listen and to know the importance of listening for
them. The findings of this study were as follows: Majority of the Grade 10 students were categorized under Informational listening. The respondents were categorized as Informational listening because they were less active than the others and took down notes while listening. Some
of the respondents categorized as Critical listeners because they were much
more active than the others and they were asked a lot of questions about the topic. The respondents categorized as Empathetic listeners showed empathy and approval to the speaker through smiling or nodding. The listening activities preferred by the Grade 10 students are listening to love story, fantasy and fictional stories. They also like to listen to inspirational and love songs.
Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were obtained: The group of students-respondent categorized as Informational listener showed low performance In the listening activity as compared to the respondents who categorized as Critical and Empathetic listeners who were motivated enough to listen and participate in order to categorize the listeners. There is a significant difference in the reactions between the Informational, Critical and Empathetic listeners. Different types of listeners preferred the same listening activities.
Based on the result of the study, the following recommendations are hereby offered by the researchers: Students, this research will help them to distinguish their listening category. For future researchers, this research may provide support and guide to their future studies. For teachers, this research will help them to determine the appropriate styles and approaches for the students learning especially to the students listening interest. For schools, this research
can be used as a guide to know the listening category of the students.
