This analysis seeks to analyze the class hegemony and social conflict in the movie Parasite by filmmaker Bong Joon-film Ho. It depicts the societal struggle reflects the reality that exists in South Korea, the country where the film is set. This analysis uses a Sociological and Marxist approach and employs a descriptive qualitative method. The analysis claimed that the of Parasite film represents social problems caused by disparities between the upper and lower classes the Park family (rich family) and Kim family (poor family) are the families presented in the film; demonstrates the class division. The researchers use the movie itself as the subject and primary data, and gathered related researches as the secondary data. <br/>The film begins with the Kim family, a poor South Korean family living in an undisclosed city's disadvantaged area. The patriarch and matriarch, Ki-Taek and Chung-Sook, are having difficulty finding work, and their children, Ki-woo and Ki-Jung, are attempting to assist in any way they can. After struggling to make ends meet folding pizza boxes for a local pizza business, one of Ki-Woo's wealthier friends, Min-hyuk, pays a visit to the Kims and offers him a job tutoring for the Parks, an affluent family.<br/><br/>Ki-woo pays a visit to the Parks in their massive mansion, where he meets the spacey and out-of-touch Mrs. Park. He also gets to know Da-Hye, the provocative adolescent he will be instructing, and Da-song, her younger brother, for whom Mrs. Park is looking for an art tutor. Ki-woo sees an opportunity to obtain his artistically gifted sister, Ki-Jung, a job and says he knows somebody named "Jessica" who attended college in Illinois and would be ideal for the job. Mrs. Park engages Ki-Jung as both a tutor and an art therapist after she impresses Mrs. Park with some fictitious psychological insights.<br/><br/>Ki-woo and Ki-Jung soon gain posts in the Park household for both of their parents. After Ki-Jung puts her underwear in the car to make it look like his former driver was having a sexual relationship in the car, they recommend Ki-Taek, her father, a job as Mr. Park's driver. Ki-Jung, and Ki-woo instigate an allergic reaction in the housekeeper named Moon Gwang, after learning about her peach allergy, giving the impression that she has tuberculosis. As the housekeeper, Chung-sook, their mother, takes over.<br/><br/>For Da-song's birthday, the Parks go camping, leaving the house empty.<br/><br/>The Kim family comes to stay for the weekend and enjoys themselves. It's all fun and games until Moon-gwang arrives, insisting on leaving something at the house. The rest of the family flees as Chung-sook allows her in and Moon-gwang unveils a bunker in the basement of the house, a hideout that even the Parks are unaware of. Moon-Gwang's spouse Geun-sae, is hiding from loan sharks down in the basement. Moon-Gwang begs Chung-sook not to tell the Parks anything. but Chung-sook threatens to do so.<br/><br/>After listening in on the talk, the Kims collapse in a heap down the bunker's steps. Moon-Gwang realizes they are all related and threatens to give an embarrassing footage of them to the Parks. The Kims manage to get Moon-Gwang and her husband down into the bunker after a dispute in the living room, but Mrs. Park calls and tells Chung-sook that they are heading home after the campgrounds flooded due to a rainfall. When the Parks return home, the Kims are locked in the house, cowering under the coffee table, Chung-sook kicks Moon-Gwang down, concussing and murdering her as she tries to ascend the steps and show herself<br/><br/>Mr. and Mrs. Park sleep on the couch to watch over Da-song when he wants to sleep in a tent outside. Mr. Park discusses his foul odor with Ki-Taek who is hiding beneath the table. The Kims eventually manage to flee, but upon returning home, they discover their apartment has been entirely flooded. Mrs. Park summons them all the next day to help with Da-Song's birthday celebration on the lawn. Geun-Sae, Moon- Gwang's husband, attacks Ki-woo in the basement and beats him with the rock. Geun- Sae then appears on the lawn party and staggers Ki-Jung with a knife in the chest. Mr. Park yells at Ki-Taek to throw him the car keys so they may drive Da-song to the hospital while Da-song faints in dread. The keys are thrown by Ki-Taek and land under Geun-Sae, who is fighting Chung-Sook.<br/><br/>Mr. Park pulls the keys from under Geun-Sae after Chung-sook stabs him with a pork skewer, but scowls at Geun- Sae's odor in the process. This elicits a response from Ki-Taek, who stabs Park in the chest before fleeing and hiding in the underground bunker.<br/><br/>Ki-woo awakens in the hospital and discovers what has occurred. He stands in the woods near the Parks' house, which has been purchased by Germans, and notices that the censor light is flashing in a Morse Code pattern. He decodes the code and understands it is a message from his father, who is holed up in the bunker. He responds with his own letter, in which he fantasizes about buying the house and reconnecting with his family. |
