| Summary, etc | Teacher-centered instruction often falls short in fostering deep understanding and active student participation, particularly in complex subjects like mathematics. In response, the flipped classroom approach has emerged as an innovative model that reverses conventional teaching dynamics by delivering instructional content outside of the classroom, typically through video lectures, and using class time for active problem-solving and discussion. This study investigates the effectiveness of the flipped classroom method in teaching rational algebraic expressions to Grade 8 students at West Fairview High School. Employing a mixed-methods research design with a sequential explanatory design, the study explored how video-based instruction influences academic performance and engagement, offering insights into the pedagogical value of this approach within the Philippine secondary education context. Flipped classroom approach effectively improved academic performance and engagement among Grade 8 students learning rational algebraic expressions. Both quantitative and qualitative findings showed that video-based instruction enhances comprehension, participation, and learner autonomy, despite some initial adjustment challenges. Schools are encouraged to integrate the flipped classroom model into the mathematics curriculum, especially for conceptually challenging topics, while ensuring teachers receive proper training to effectively implement this approach. |
