Dissertation note: Thesis BS Biology University of Rizal System. Cardona 2018 Summary: This study aimed to determine the effects of Basella rubra Linn. (Alugbati) fortified Ice cream on the blood sugar level of Rattus norvegicus (Albino mice).The study was focused on utilizing the potential and the uses of natural resourses in the environment. The study examined the effects of alugbati fortified ice cream in lowering the glucose level in albino mice in using experimental research design. The study used twenty four albino mice which divided into four cages and separates according to their sex to avoid pregnancy that may affect the result of the study. Flavonoids were present in alugbati palnts and it proves in this study in lowering the blood sugar level of albino mice. Treatment III has the highest effect in lowering the blood sugar level of mice after feeding with alugbati fortified ice cream with the concentration of 15%, followed by Treatment II with 10% and Treatment I with 5%. Control experimental mice increased the blood sugar level of mice may be due to the sugar content and other ingredients of commercial ice cream. Average was used to determine the effects of alugbati fortified ice cream in the blood sugar level in control and experimental albino mice before and after the feeding of ice cream. To determine significant difference of the effect of alugbati fortified ice cream in lowering blood sugar in mice, t-test was used. Anova was used to compare in the effect of different level of alugbati ice cream fed to mice. It was therefore concluded that the alugbati fortified ice cream has an effect to control higher the blood sugar level of Albino mice. Alugbati formulated ice cream was found effective in maintaining the blood sugar level due to the active ingredients, flavonoids that is were present on the said plant.
