Thesis (Bachelor of Science in Mathematics major in Computer Science) -- University of Rizal System-Morong.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This study aimed to produce an interactive software application related to four basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). The purpose of the expected software was to help the students who are in Grade 6 levels to increase their mental calculating ability and to improve their mathematical skills in solving arithmetic equation. The Mental Math Twister was developed through the use of Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0, Microsoft Office Access, Microsoft PowerPoint, Windows Movie Maker and Windows Media Player. This study was conducted at Baras Elementary School during the first semester 2013-2014. The researchers approached fifty (50) Grade 6 students and ten (10) teachers of the said school and ten (10) Mathematics and Information Technology professors and Instructors since they were experts in the field. The respondents were chosen using stratified random sampling technique. The researchers used adapted and modified questionnaire checklist to be administered to the respondents of the study which resolve the level of acceptability of the system in terms of instructional content, curriculum, connections, graphics and multimedia, lay-out, adaptability and accessibility, learner engagement interactivity, teacher and learner support materials, and flexibility. It was found out that the developed program was strongly accepted with regard to its attribute as a system in a whole that both respondents have a verbal interpretation of Strongly Accepted. Based from the summary of findings, conclusions drawn, the developed Mental Math Twister was easy to utilize because it is user-friendly as the commands and features were easy to understand and follow. It would make learning more enjoyable to the students. and the developed program passed all the qualifications needed in conducting the study and it also satisfied the user's demands. it is recommended that the program may be used to enhance the mental ability of the students and follow-up study should be conducted for further enhancement of the developed program.
