EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Activated carbon is a porous and highly adsorptive material used to remove impurities, because of its property to adsorb impurities and carbon based compounds, it can be used to adsorb pollutants like carbon monoxide to achieve a healthier environment. The objective of the thesis was to develop an activated carbon board that can be used to adsorb carbon monoxide in places where most people stay. This was also aimed to determine the effectiveness of activated carbon board. The researchers focused their study on adsorptive property of activated carbon governing in environmental engineering to understand the effect of too much amount carbon monoxide and to make an effective adsorbent material such as activated carbon board to reduce carbon monoxide. Determine the amount of carbon monoxide adsorbed by the activated carbon board with the use of automotive emission analyzer and observation analysis. Experiment using various types of methods was conducted; first was using a device (Automotive Emission Analyzer) to test the effectiveness of the activated carbon board and compared the result of the three (3) samples. Three vessels with equal sizes contained vehicle emission, where the second vessel has activated carbon and the third has the activated carbon board after extraction of carbon monoxide came from the vehicle, the amount of carbon monoxide present in three containers were measured for ten (10) seconds after one (1) minute for three times. By observation analysis, using two (2) containers enclosed and sealed. Container A was filled with just vehicle emission while container B contained fifty (50) grams of activated carbon and vehicle emission, these vessels were observed in an hour. After the researchers conducted this several methods, data gathered in experiment using Automotive Emission Analyzer showed that activated carbon board adsorbed up to 1.91 parts per million of carbon monoxide. In observation analysis, the activated carbon board reduced the moist and the odor inside the container produced by vehicle emission. The result of the experiments indicated that the activated carbon was effective in reducing carbon monoxide in the container.
