Dissertation note: GSTHESIS Master of Art in Teaching Major in Education University of Rizal System, Rodriguez, Rizal 2020 Summary: The principal objective of the study was to enhance the competencies in literature through contextualized and localized interactive videos in English 11 for selected grade 11 students of San Jose-Litex Senior High School for the Second Semester of School Year 2019-2020. The respondents of the study were randomly selected from grade 11, each section is composed of 60-80 students from different specialized tracks and strands namely: Accountancy, Business and Management strand (ABM), Humanities and Social Science strand (HUMSS), Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics strand (STEM), Technical-Vocational Livelihood strand (TVL) and randomly selected 30 respondents for Experimental and 30 respondents for Control groups. The method used in this study is Experimental method with the Pre-test and Post-test Control Group design for the quantitative part, the observations are typically based on the belief that facts and feelings of the respondents of this study, can be separated, and that the world exist as a single reality-composed of facts that can be discovered through observation or the usage of measurements or statistical tools. The researcher then used the Simple Random Sampling technique to ensure that particular strata or categories of individuals are represented in the sampling process. The Diagnostic Test revealed a highest mean score for (Valuing the contribution of local writer to the development of regional literary traditions) which is categorized as Mastery Levei (ML) but lowest mean score for (Identifying the geographic, linguistic, and ethnic dimension of Pinilippine literary history from pre- colonial to the contemporary) which is categorized as Below Mastery Lavel (BML) Both Experiment and Control groups obtained progress and higher mean scores during the pretests and posttests. However, the Experimental group showed much higher mean score. The increase in the mean scores of both Control Group and Experimental group as revealed by Pretest and Posttest were found significant except for (Identifying the geographic, linguistic, and ethnic dimension of Philippine literary history from pre-colonial to the contemporary) which remained not significant for both groups. The posttest mean score of the Experimental group is significantly higher than the posttest mean score of the Control group and Majority of the feedback of the Teacher-Respondents and Student The learners can easily appreciate a literary piece, the purpose of the piece and the means of writing of the authors if they can relate to the author's life and the author's biography is explained to them well. However, the learners find it less interesting about geographic, linguistic, and ethnic dimension of Philippine literature history. The strategy of contextualized and localized interactive videos in English 11 is still better to improve the competencies in literature of the students. Therefore, it is an acceptable tool to develop the learners' sub competencies in learning literature. The students prefer learning by watching the video and analyze the flow of the scenario! plot. This means that that the contextualized and localized interactive videos help the studerts to think critically and not just to memorize every single detail the in stories like: Who are the characters? What is the setting? When is the event happened? etc. However, the teacher's expertise and preparation are soll important for the leamers to be more interested on leaming about literature by asking deepened questions by applying HOTS. Control and Expenmental groups can improve their performances However, by using the contextualized and localized video materials in enhancing the competencies in literature of the students, it can better improve the performance of the students in learning the different topics in 21st Century Literature of the Philippines. The learners can enrich their understanding about the story on the contextualized and localized videos and can develop their skills in explaining the relationship of the contextual meaning that they can understand the meaning of the context depending on the circumstances, setting for an event, statement, or idea. Some terms can be broader and more meaningful to the learners using the strategy. The contextualized arid localized interactive videos make the learners to appreciate more the essence of learning as the respondents tend to become more atteritive and more critical thinkers using the strategy.
